Stories at Lake

Let a story of faith, healing, hope and courage inspires each and everyone of us to understand God's mercy and His purpose for us.

God has taught me time and time again that I don’t always have to figure everything out.

I had always thought that I would have six kids.  As my age progressed, I thought “Okay, maybe just four kids.” Trying for several years to get pregnant was a big test of faith. I always felt that children are a precious gift from God, so when I experienced infertility it was one of the biggest challenges I ever faced. After three different cycles of in-vitro fertilization, God’s answer was “No, you will have two.”  Our twins just turned 12, and they are the light of our lives! My girls have had a great time at the Junior High events and camps, and they really like Perry’s style of teaching.  Their small group leader is Rachel (pictured above) and they regularly have great discussions - they are usually one of the last groups to come out on Sunday mornings!

After serving at Seabreeze Church in Huntington Beach for 15 years we moved to the San Gabriel Valley. Being semi-new to the area, Lake was the first church we “checked out” in October 2013. We haven’t gone anywhere else! I love the diverse group here. It really represents God’s family with people from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures coming together to praise and serve the Maker of us all. God has taught me that I can put my best effort into whatever the circumstance, and trust Him to do the rest.  “And that my ways are not always His ways (Isaiah 55:8) but if I trust in Him, His peace will guard my heart and mind.” Philippians 4:6-7

Knowing the importance of being committed to a church body where we tithe, learn, grow and serve together we became members in February. Our family has been here for almost a year now and are making friends with some of the people we see regularly, whether in church on Sunday, or when we serve at the Community Meal.  Getting connected has it’s challenges, so we decided to start a new small group for couples through the Shared Faith teaching series. We hope that will lead to lasting friendships as we grow together and encourage each other.
