Temptation: Understanding and Overcoming
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.” (1 Cor. 10:13)
Temptation is real and effective at many times in our lives and often in the midst of transition or change. We tend to rely on our strengths to lead us. We tend to trust in our gifts to serve us. We tend to believe that if we can control even a little piece of the world all will be well. Our tendencies are what get us into trouble - as believers and us as a church.
Temptation is so common that no person (even Jesus) lives without experiencing it multiple times, even multiple times a day. So common is temptation that the triumph of Jesus over the temptations of Satan need to teach us and remind us that part of our discipleship is to shirk our tendencies and rely on God.
This sermon series is created to help us as individuals and as a church community engage the disciplines that will enable us to let go of our tendencies in order to understand and overcome physical and spiritual temptation through the grace of Jesus.
