Food for the Trip

Exodus 16:2-5, 11-18, 31-35

  1. Read 16:2–5, 11–12. Why do you think God was so good in providing this way for his people?
  2. In vv. 17–18, an interesting observation is made about gathering the provisions as a community of God's people. What do we learn from this?
  3. Read Deuteronomy 8:1–5. Moses reflects many years later on why God sent the manna. What does he say? How does that apply to all of us?
  4. The provision of manna was behind what Jesus meant when he said we should pray "Give us this today our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11). What do we mean when we pray that prayer?
  5. Jesus applied this story directly to us in John 6:47–58. Put Jesus' teaching into your own words. How does it apply to us?
  6. JIn Revelation 2:17, Jesus promises that those who overcome tribulation will be given "hidden manna." This almost certainly refers to unexpected ways that God provides. Have you ever experienced God's providing for you in ways you never could have anticipated?
  7. What is the main lesson you hope to apply to your life from this study?
