Why I Decided to Get Baptized

I was born into a Christian church, and I accepted Jesus as my savior at a very young age. Although I’ve been a Christian all my life, I was a major back-slider for most of my high-school years.  I started attending Lake Avenue Church, with my family, last February and have been here ever since.

My relationship with Jesus has become much closer due to the change in churches. At the time I didn’t think it was right because my siblings and I were all born into my old church and switching churches was never an option for my family. But when I stared going to Lake I realized that there was a calling on my family and me to leave and grow in Christ. Ever since then, everything in my life has progressed in many ways.

I am happy to say that this summer I had the opportunity of going to Chicago, Illinois with the High School group. It was my first missions trip and I had such a great experience.

Through the years I have faced plenty of challenges, and know there are more to come as I grow even deeper in my relationship with Christ. Jesus has made many changes in my life. He has made me less stubborn, which led to a better relationship with my parents. He has also answered many of my prayers. In particular, He has stopped me from having horrible nightmares, which had led me to have a lot of paranoia. I have come to a point in my life where I can live without worries, that a teenager shouldn’t be faced with, and I thank Him for that.

I am learning to be more Christ-like in all parts of my life; school, home and church in particular, but He is already teaching me how to be humble in certain situations. Also, God is teaching me to do things that I don’t always want to do. He is working on my heart on a daily basis.

On August 16, 2015 I decided to get baptized here at Lake. I was ready to wash away my sins and my past completely and start new through the Lord Jesus Christ; to follow Him as best I can. I know that God has worked in me and through me in many ways and that baptism was a symbol of my commitment to Him.

I thank Colleen (One of Lake’s summer interns) Mark, the high school director, and my small group peers and leaders, Tracey, Kelly, Bryan and Naomka.

I’m so thankful for all the ways God has worked and continues to work in my life though my Lake family.
