My Green Oak Camp Story

I’ve been gone to Green Oak Ranch five times and it has impacted my life in such a big way!

My experience with the Martins at Green Oak Ranch all started when I was nine years old. They used to be my neighbor and I became best friends with their daughters Rachael and Kristen.

I was always looking forward to going hiking with Mr. Robert Martin up to the crosswalk and learning about the different plants as we passed by them on the trail. I also spent time with his daughters Racheal and Kristen. We always had fun on the tire swing and looked forward to petting the goats, donkeys and lamas.

In the afternoon, Mr. Martin would bring out all his bugs and microscoptic stream water. He would share his microscope with anyone who was interested in looking at them. Mrs. Martin would get the campfire ready at night and prep the Smors, while Mr. Martin would bring out the telescope so we could look at the stars. It was so interesting and I really enjoyed that time. Over the years of attending God has taught me more about life’s responsibilities and how to be kind toward others. One of my favorite parts of Green Oak Camp is being able to share my faith with other Christians outside the church setting.

As I got older the Martins wanted to share this experience with friends from Beverly Hills’ Persian church. They would join us for this great camping trip and would pray with all of us from Lake. They enjoyed being with us because we could freely talk and pray to God, especially because in their country they are not allowed to.

Now I have the privilege of sharing this experience with my daughter as we continue the tradition of going to Green Oak Camp with the Martins. I really enjoy socializing with different people of faith and seeing my daughter interact with other children. As my daughter gets older, I hope she will realize she can pray and learn about God even outside of church and do that with different kinds of people.
