Ladies: Why do we need a Manger?

Preparations for Advent 2018 began six months ago as we began to pray and look to God for what we needed to hear. In those prayers, we were led to our current series and the stories of these five women from scripture. The stories connect us to our humanity and God’s divinity and the intersection of the two in Jesus. However, we had been at a loss to illustrate this reality.

It was while Perry Hawkins and I were meeting with our mission partners from Houston at the CCDA conference this past November that the stories came alive in the intricate images being used. Sarah Beth Baca is the artist who just happened to show us the art she had been working on while we were meeting with her husband and Sr. Director of Operations, for Attack Poverty. Her mix of stained-glass style, scripture, and ethnicity tell a story in a face that was so captivating, we decided to commission her to finish the two additional women we needed for our series. Sarah Beth would say that she is, “giving a new spin on some old things. Women of the Bible and Life out of death.” If you enjoy her art you can see more at: https://society6.com/sarahbethbacaart. You can also find her on Instagram at sarahbethbacaart.

We thank Sarah Beth for working with us so quickly to create the additional images we needed to depict all of women in our series and for allowing us the opportunity to use her work. We hope that these illustrations help bring to life the very real stories of these women and how they point us to our Savior’s birth this Advent season.
