High School Basketball Hoop Project

When I started my Eagle Project, the last requirement to becoming an Eagle Scout, I wanted something that would benefit Lake, my church home of 12+ years where I became a Christian and have been learning to follow Jesus. With the help of valued HS leaders, I was inspired to install a basketball hoop, key, and fencing in the Warehouse to draw in HS students before and after service.

I initially looked at the amount of money needed—about $5,500 (with inflation)—and felt discouraged, thinking that it would never happen. Then Pastor Mathew introduced me to Adult Bible study classes here at Lake, many of which I have visited over the past two months.

Although I was terrified at first, I am now thankful for the opportunity to meet more of the church body through these visits. Every class I visited was extremely welcoming and kind, giving me hope and encouragement and helping me to see God working and fulfilling what I thought was impossible.

So far, with a hot dog fundraiser at Green Oak family camp, Christmas Eve hot cocoa fundraiser, donations from many Adult Bible study classes, and root beer float fundraisers throughout January (to coincide with the launch of ROOTED), I have met four-fifths of my fundraising goal!

The “construction” phase of the project begins this month.

Please pray with me. I still need donations of additional funds, food (for volunteers on workdays), and muscle (hoop/fence cons  struction, painting, etc.).

Most importantly, please pray for the High School Ministry and the students who will use the hoop and become more connected at church!
