A Small Group is a community of people gathering together to study God’s Word.
Hebrews 10:25 says:
“We should keep on encouraging each other to be thoughtful and to do helpful things. Some people have given up the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord’s coming is getting closer.”
I was first introduced to a small group back in the fall of 2005 with the Women’s ministry at Lake which ran for a short term 5 weeks. I saw an ad in the worship folder promoting this women’s table small group. The concept of meeting with women around a table was new to me. I just started working and wanted my life not to just revolve around work. I learned that a small group is a community of believers who support each other by reading God’s Word and through praying for one another.
It was what God intended for us.
In 2010, I joined a Beth Moore women’s Bible study at Lake. I wanted a more long-term small group. I was new to the Group and felt welcomed and loved. We were all different in age, with me being the youngest. We started to form our own group. This is where I learned how to facilitate and to lead because each week, we would alternate leading. Our night would start with a light dinner, catching up on the week, then we watched a teaching video and discussed the previous week’s study guide. It made me more immersed in the Bible. God’s Word came alive during my quiet time of study. I was actively reading and searching the Bible. For five years we would alternate meeting and doing a Bible study at home or at Lake. As a group we walked together both in joyful and challenging times. One of us lost a job and another one was a new grandmother. Time in prayer for each other was critical in our group. Together we formed a strong community. Occasionally, we would still get together like old times.
Today, you are invited to join a Small group community as we study the book of Acts together. Come and visit our table on Sunday at the Chapel Lobby to sign up and get more information.
