There's a benefit in going to a church so big. You can't know every single member of the congregation let alone have close relationships with all of them, but you are able to connect with a wide range of people every week.
This past month I had the pleasure of going to the high school ministry's Girls'/Spring retreat. I've been to two retreats before, and both times I've left with new friends, strengthened friendships, and a deeper knowledge of God. I expected nothing less when the time came for this year's retreat and my expectations were met.
This year's theme was "Being a woman of God." Liz and the other small group leaders shared their stories of their struggles in staying true to God's plans, rules, and purpose. Because this group of amazing women was much older than my peers and I, their stories initially seemed like they did not apply to us. As they provided prime examples of how to be a woman of the Lord however, we were enlightened to hear how they had dealt with their adversities with boys, friends, and even parents. To hear from such exemplary women was truly a blessing.
In addition to hearing stories from the leaders, we got to hear stories from amongst ourselves. There was small group time after each message and we discussed our lives in accordance to the message. Through shared anecdotes, we connected with each other in our similar situations ranging from relationships to sports. It was comforting to know that there are others dealing with the same problems.
Being a woman of God doesn't solely depend on reading the Bible everyday and preaching its truths to the world. No one would follow the Lord if it was that way. Being a woman of God means to act what God intended you to be and Girls' Retreat reminded me of that once more.
