Church family, one question for you. What do you get when you combine Bob Ross, painting, senior adults, high school students, and a Zoom call? If you answered lasting, fruitful fellowship, and an intergenerational missions’ trip, you are correct! Although, if you guessed that answer, I’d wonder how’d you guess it and, are you a prophet? Kidding.
During the lockdown, like most youth ministers, activating students into the church seemed like a guessing game, and had moments of feeling as though we were starting from scratch. Yet in the midst of uncertainty, we had some opportunities to lean in and be creative.
After all, we serve a creative God who isn’t stumped to move in new, creative ways in the midst of trial. Our way of being creative was inviting Galileans and Disciples classes to fellowship and activity alongside our HS students via zoom monthly. Our monthly activities spanned from baking, crafting, bingo, cooking a meal, painting, etc. During that time, we had rich fellowship, play, and plenty of laughter. We hope to create more moments between our HS students and other classes.
One fruit to come out of the journey was having some of the adult classmates, Naomi and Ken Wagner, say yes to our HS missions’ trip to North Richmond in Houston Texas. In July they will join 25 HS students to serve and partner with Attack Poverty for 1 week.
