QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION AND PERSONAL DEVOTION

Review the Sermon: Read Deuteronomy 34:1-12

• What stood out to you this week from Pastor Mathew’s sermon?
• In talking about Moses’ journey which culminated in not being able to enter the Promised Land, Pastor Mathew said that the Presence of God can make even the desert feel like a Promised Land. In other words, the most difficult life circumstances can feel like a promised land if God is present. When have you experienced this to be true?

Dive Into the Scripture:

• How would you feel if you were Moses, unable to enter into the Promised Land after coming so far?
• In verse 9 we learn that “Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him.” What does it mean to be filled with the spirit of wisdom?
• Take a moment to examine these passages from Acts in which people laid their hands on others— Acts 6:1-6; 9:1-19; 13:1-3. What do we learn about the “laying on of hands” from these passages? (Who does it? What happens?) How does this help us understand more fully what happened with Joshua?

Live It Out:

• Take a moment to read Hebrews 11:24-26. How can you live like Moses this holiday season, choosing to be mistreated with God’s people at the margins instead of enjoying the “fleeting pleasures of sin” with those in power?
• How can you cultivate gratitude this Thanksgiving week, knowing that God has already invited you into the Promised Land of His Kingdom?
