Small Group Questions
Read Isaiah 35:1-10
- Joy is one of the main themes we celebrate and reflect on during the season of Advent. Over this last year, when were some times that you experienced real joy? When did you experience real pain?
- Isaiah 35 gives us images of lush life blossoming in the desert. What might this this imagery tell us about God's joy in the midst of dry and barren places in our lives and communities?
- In Luke 7:22, Jesus is likely referring to this passage when he is describes his ministry on Earth. How do we see God's joy reflected in Jesus' work in the world?
- Verses 8-10 shows us a picture of what God is making the world into. What is this place like? How is it similar or different to our lives with God now?
- During Advent we recognize that we have reasons to lament as well as to be joyful. What are some ways that you and your community can practice holding these things together during this Christmas season?
