There is a show that airs on the discovery channel called the deadliest catch. It’s a show about these extreme fishermen out on the sea catching Alaskan king crab. These fishermen are a really rough bunch. Their language is pretty vulgar and they look like…well let’s just say they look like what they do.
Each episode is filled with snap shots of their intense lives out on the sea. Many have died out on the waters but the fishermen keep coming back. The conditions on the boat are pretty rough, and these guys work long hours. I’ve never seen anyone shave or shower or anything close to that, so you can slowly begin to see a mental picture of what these guys look like.
Now can you imagine Jesus walking up to this group of guys and saying “hey come follow me and I will make you fishers of men?” Imagine Peter’s surprise when Jesus walked up to him.

Series Introduction | Week 6 Introduction |
We have been in this series of 1 Peter, and today I want to talk about the life of Peter. However, I won’t be talking about how amazing he was. I want to deal with how unprepared he was and his frequent failures. Peter is the guy that no one expected to change the world. Jesus chose some of the most unqualified guys to be his disciples. So what does that say about us? Jesus specializes in taking the most unlikely people and using them for His glory. If you are feeling insignificant, insufficient, and unqualified to be used by God, you picked a good Sunday to come to church! Because He specializes in using people just like you.
To His Glory,
Albert Tate
