- In ancient buildings, the “cornerstone” (1 Peter 2:4) was the first stone established in a building and the one stone around which all of the others had to be fitted. In what ways should Jesus be our cornerstone? (Notice especially the phrase of how we as stones must “come to” him.)
- Look at 1 Peter 2:5–6 and consider how we as living stones are to relate to others who come to the “Cornerstone.”
- What are the different ways people respond to making Jesus their cornerstone as described in 1 Peter 2:7–8? What is your own personal response?
- Make a list of the way Peter describes the family of God in 1 Peter 2:9–10. Discuss how each part of that list should shape the church you attend.
- How should Jesus followers live in the world according to 1 Peter 2:11–12? Read also Jesus’ similar words about this found in Matthew 5:3–12.
- What is the most important lesson for you from this passage of Scripture?
