Dealing with Obstructions
Exodus 13:17-14:31
- In 13:17–18, God sent his people on a much-longer route toward the Promised Land than was necessary. Why? Do you ever think that God sends us through times and experiences for a similar reason?
- How did God make his presence known to his people during the long journey from Egypt to the Promised Land? Why do you think the Israelites seemed to forget his presence throughout the journey? How might this apply to us today?
- In 14:4, God gave Moses two reasons for the way he would deliver his people: 1) God will gain glory, and 2) people will know that he is the Lord. Read 14:17–18, 23–25. How did the miraculous rescue through the Red Sea fulfill God's purposes? How might these two purposes be fulfilled when we as God's people face enormous challenges?
- Read 14:10–12. How did the Israelites respond to the adversity they were facing? How might we respond in similar ways today?
- Read 14:26–31. How did the Israelites respond to the work of God? Knowing the response of v. 31 did not last very long; how do you think we should respond when God speaks to us or provides for us?
- What kinds of steps do you plan to take so that you might be faithful to him in both good and tough times?
