We Are One In Christ
- Look through Philippians and Philemon and discuss what the Apostle Paul says about Jesus. See especially Philippians 1:1, 11, 18, 21; 3:7–11; and 4:13. What difference should knowledge of Jesus make in our lives?
- Many Bible scholars say that the heart of Philippians is 2:3–11 and of Philemon is vv. 16–17. What is this mind of Christ and how should it affect the lives of churches in which Jesus is Lord?
- Paul uses several words to summarize what should characterize communities in which Jesus is Lord. Look at his words and discuss how they might look in churches in which Jesus is the one in charge:
a. Confidence (1:6, see also 1:21)
b. Partnership in the gospel (1:5, 18; Philemon 6)
c. Humility (2:3–4; Philemon 16)
d. Pressing on (3:12–14)
e. Agreeing in the Lord (4:2–3)
f. Joy and peace (4:4–7)
g. Contentment (4:11–13)
h. Generosity (4:14–15, 19)
- What is the most important lesson you hope to apply to your life from our studies in Philippians and Philemon?
