Mark 10:1–16
- In v. 2, the question asked by the Pharisees is said to be a “test.” What do you think they were testing Jesus about? (Everyone agreed that there were some grounds for divorce. The debate was about what the legitimate grounds were.)
- Some say that Jesus’ answer in vv. 3–4 was not an answer. Why did Jesus respond as he did?
- Jesus pulled the discussion back to God’s original intention for marriage—before sin ever entered the world. What does Jesus say that God intended marriage to be in vv. 5–9?
- Jesus’ teaching in vv. 10–12 is almost certainly about a person getting a certificate of divorce when the marriage has not been broken by one party or the other committing adultery. What does Jesus teach in these verses?
- Matthew 19:8–10 reports the disciples’ response to Jesus’ teaching. What do they say? What do people say about Jesus’ teaching in our own day?
- What lessons about marriage do we learn from Jesus for our own society?
- What do you hope to apply to your relationships from the study today?
