Life Changer

Mark 10:1–16

  1. In v. 2, the question asked by the Pharisees is said to be a “test.” What do you think they were testing Jesus about? (Everyone agreed that there were some grounds for divorce. The debate was about what the legitimate grounds were.)

  2. Some say that Jesus’ answer in vv. 3–4 was not an answer. Why did Jesus respond as he did?

  3. Jesus pulled the discussion back to God’s original intention for marriage—before sin ever entered the world. What does Jesus say that God intended marriage to be in vv. 5–9?

  4. Jesus’ teaching in vv. 10–12 is almost certainly about a person getting a certificate of divorce when the marriage has not been broken by one party or the other committing adultery. What does Jesus teach in these verses?

  5. Matthew 19:8–10 reports the disciples’ response to Jesus’ teaching. What do they say? What do people say about Jesus’ teaching in our own day?

  6. What lessons about marriage do we learn from Jesus for our own society?

  7. What do you hope to apply to your relationships from the study today?
