In high school, one of my New Year's resolutions was to walk my dog every day. Even if it were just around the block, Maverick and I would take a daily constitutional. We got off to a great start. January 1, check. January 2, check. January 3, check. Now we had momentum. The hard part was over.
January 4: no walk.
I forget what I did that day instead. But I do remember feeling a little disappointed. After all, I didn't make the resolution merely for the sake of daily walking. I wanted to show responsibility, to make my dog happy, and spend time with him in the months I had before college would take me out of state.
Some of us make resolutions, others don't, but we all have a common wish: for a better year than the one we just had. Ever hear someone pray, "Lord, please keep everything the exact same, forever?" Me neither. Because we each have an internal drive for something more. I believe it’s a God-given desire. We were made for a certain way of living. That’s where our text meets us today. I’m looking forward to exploring it with you!
