The Good Shepherd - Week 3 - Study Guide

The Good Shepherd

John 10:1-18

  1. This third Advent week is called "Angels' and Shepherds' Week" as we remember those who first foretold Jesus' birth. Read Luke 2:8–15. How would you have responded if you had been one of the shepherds? Why do you think God chose to have the birth announcement made to humble shepherds?
  2. Read Luke 2:16–18. Why were the shepherds so bold about their witness? What do we learn about our own witness to Christ from them?
  3. The Bible calls Jesus' teaching in John 10:1–6 a figure of speech. What are we to learn about following Jesus from his teaching?
  4. Jesus changed his metaphor from being a shepherd to being the gate for the sheep in 10:7–10. What is he teaching us in these verses?
  5. Jesus returned to talking about being a shepherd in 10:11–18. List all of the lessons he taught in these verses. What application do they have to us?
  6. What is the main thing you want to do in the light of these passages?
