The Good Shepherd
John 10:1-18
- This third Advent week is called "Angels' and Shepherds' Week" as we remember those who first foretold Jesus' birth. Read Luke 2:8–15. How would you have responded if you had been one of the shepherds? Why do you think God chose to have the birth announcement made to humble shepherds?
- Read Luke 2:16–18. Why were the shepherds so bold about their witness? What do we learn about our own witness to Christ from them?
- The Bible calls Jesus' teaching in John 10:1–6 a figure of speech. What are we to learn about following Jesus from his teaching?
- Jesus changed his metaphor from being a shepherd to being the gate for the sheep in 10:7–10. What is he teaching us in these verses?
- Jesus returned to talking about being a shepherd in 10:11–18. List all of the lessons he taught in these verses. What application do they have to us?
- What is the main thing you want to do in the light of these passages?
