A while ago, several members of our LAC Ministry Council came to me and told me that God had put a burden on their hearts about our stewardship. They said that they view stewardship not as a financial push but simply as an essential part of following Jesus. And, they were convinced that we have not done enough to teach about how all that we are and have is from God—given to us to use for his glory.
A man of noble birth called ten of his servants and gave them tin minas. "Put this to work," he said, "until I come back."
-Jesus, Luke 19:13
I have been praying about how we might take time as a church family to hear from God about the stewardship of our time, talents, and treasures (the three “Ts”). Of course, the Ministry Council’s counsel and subsequent prayers have led to the brief series we conclude this weekend that we have called Don’t Waste Your Life.
I am quite certain of one thing, i.e., that even though we need to hear from God’s Word together about stewardship in our gathered worship services, we also need to have opportunities to speak with one another and learn together about how to use the temporary gifts God has entrusted to us for his eternal mission. So, let me recommend two steps to you. First, regarding the use of your talents and time, please contact our Pathways’ Connecting Team headed up by Pastors John Secrest and Walter Alexander. The easiest way to do this is to go forward after any of our services to speak with Pathways representatives who will be ready to serve you (and who will be standing to my right and your left). You may also call us at 626.817.4885 or check out serving opportunities online here.
Second, regarding financial issues, I strongly recommend taking part in our upcoming training on Financial Life Skills Course that will begin Thursday, March 1. This is intended for us all:
- Those newer in issues of discipleship and wanting to begin a good rhythm of stewardship
- Those wanting to rejuvenate our financial stewardship so that it will be a joy instead of a burden or obligation
- Those in some financial stress and seeking help or counsel
