Small Group & Personal Devotion Discussion Questions

Read Galatians 4:1-7

The first theme of Advent is Hope. How has God re-shaped your understanding of Hope this year?

  • What does it mean to be “in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world.” (vs. 3)? Where do you see these forces at work around you?
  • What did God to do rescue us out of this slavery (vs. 4-5)? What does it mean for us to be redeemed by God? What does it mean for us to be adopted by God?
  • What sorts of things do we turn to for hope instead of crying out to our Abba Father?
  • In what areas of your life do you need to cry out to God, “Abba Father!”
  • Paul says in verse 7: “So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.” In what ways are we still living as slaves instead of as God’s children and heirs?
