Luke 1:26-38 and John 15:9-17
- What do we learn about Mary from the angel’s words (Luke 1:28, 30, 31, and 35)? Given this context, what might be a new definition for being ‘favored?’
- What do we learn about Mary from her responses in Luke 1:29 and 34? How might you have felt hearing these words from the angel? What questions would you have asked?
- What do we learn about Mary from her final response in Luke 1:38? Is there a time when you made a commitment to follow God, not knowing the outcome?
- What do we learn about Jesus’ status from the angel (Luke 1:31-33 and 35)? What do we learn about the nature of our own relationship with the Son of God? (John 15:12-14)? What does Jesus appoint us to and command of us (John 15:16-17)?
- Read John 9:16 as if it were spoken directly to you. How will you go and bear fruit that will last during this holiday week? What is of greatest value for you to invest in? How will you love the people God puts in front of you?
