Re-read verse 13. Remembering Pastor Greg’s sermon, what does it mean that the Christians in Pergamum live “where Satan has his throne”?
The church in Pergamum felt the presence of the Roman Empire, with all of its political oppression, religious persecution, and idolatry. In what ways do we also see glimpses of Satan’s rule right here in our midst?
What does Jesus mean when He says, “I know where you live”?
What does it look like today to be a “faithful witness” in the midst of evil?
In verses 14-16, Jesus gives the church at Pergamum a critique. There are some in the church who have made compromises with the surrounding culture. They have accommodated to cultural norms of the Empire, allowing the practices of idolatry to seep into their church. In what ways does the church today also make compromises with the culture around us? How do we also need to repent? What does repentance look like?
Read verse 17. What is manna? (If you need a refresher, check out Exodus 16!) Imagine together how this promise would have brought comfort to the church in Pergamum. Tell a story about a time when God gave you manna in the past.
