Questions for Reflection
Read Psalm 67
- Read Numbers 6:22-26. How is this passage similar to, and yet different from, Psalm 67:1-2? How does Psalm 67 expand the meaning of this blessing from Numbers?
- What does it mean that God’s face might “shine” on us?
- The Psalmist cries out for God to be gracious to us and to bless us. Psalm 67 is essentially a cry for hope, asking God to work in and through our lives. Take a moment to reflect on your hopes for your own family, our church, our nation. What do you hope for?
- How has God blessed you?
- What is the purpose of our blessings?
- The Psalmist here pushes the boundaries of who was included in the Priestly Blessing of Numbers 6—it wasn’t just for Israel, but for the nations as well. Their sense of who was included in “us” turned out to be much more expansive than what Israel had previously imagined. How do we also need to expand our understanding of “us,” our vision of who is included in God’s family today?
- Pastor Jeanine said, “Don’t waste your time, your skills, your relationships, or your blessings. Make the most of every opportunity and become a disciple-making disciple.” Think about how you might live that out this week. What are some ways you could connect with nonbelievers in your community? How can you offer God’s blessings to others this week? How can you be a disciple-making disciple?
