Cultivating Community Connections
Dear ,
We are blessed to be part of the storied legacy of Lake Avenue Church and its beautiful sanctuary and surroundings. However, I sometimes wonder if our impressive history and facilities have inadvertently led us to become a bit too inward-looking. Our desire to take “the church outside the building” led to the birth of Missional Communities, which will continue to serve as a bridge between the congregation and the neighborhood.
For those who have already signed up to be part of a Missional Community, information about service projects in your area will be reaching you shortly. This is your chance to engage missionally with your neighbors and become a living bridge between the church and the culture.
I am thrilled by your enthusiastic response to our anti-human trafficking initiative, Project Alpha. We will have our first strategic meeting on Sunday, February 25, at 11:15 am in HH 400 (Skyroom), where we will plan our next steps and hear the story of Addison, whose name stands for Alpha in “Project Alpha”. Together, let us fight against the social evil of human trafficking, dismantling the chains of this modern-day slavery.
Our Quest teaching series continues through the month, which I hope will help you articulate the basic tenets of the Christian faith to your unchurched neighbors in their own language. The first step to being a true incarnational community is learning the vocabulary of culture, and I pray this series will prepare you for that process.
I saved the best part for last. Our Student Ministries has embarked on a 21-day journey of fasting and prayer, which has deeply stirred my personal faith journey. It has been nothing short of inspirational to see the next generation lead us closer to the heart of God. This Sunday, they will guide us into a prayer-focused Family Service, setting aside our regular sermon series for a special message on prayer which I am eager to share with you.
I am looking forward to gathering with you this Sunday.
Yours in Christ,
