The Day of Prayer and Fireside Chat
Dear ,
Over the past twelve months, Lake Avenue Church has faithfully embodied the exhortation of Psalm 141:2 through wholehearted devotion to our Day of Prayer, held on the first Saturday of every month. The prayers offered by our congregation have “risen before God like the sweet fragrance of incense,” and our “hands have been lifted up like the evening offering.” It has been an incredible privilege to witness the amazing things God has done in the lives of individuals and in our church community as a result.
This is especially evident in the powerful life transformation that happened in each Rooted group member and the sense of unity brought about by Rooted Experience sweeping through the whole church. One touching testimony that encapsulates the fruit of our prayers involves a person who, for quite some time, had been coming to worship services without knowing a single soul. However, through the impact of our prayers and community, she excitedly proclaims, "I now feel like I have a church family." This individual has begun actively witnessing to her neighbor, consistently bringing her neighbor's daughter to church every Sunday, and has even started serving in our Children's Ministries.
As the prayer ministry team and I reflected on the remarkable power of prayer at work in our midst, we have been led to make an exciting change. Beginning Wednesday, June 14, we will be transitioning our monthly Day of Prayer to a weekly Wednesday Prayer Night from 7 to 8:30 pm. This gathering will take place in the Prayer Garden & Pathway area, located on the west side of Worship Center. Our hope is to draw many more individuals to join us as we unite our hearts and minds in prayer. Together, we will witness God accomplishing infinitely more than we could ever think possible as we continue to live out the truth of Psalm 141:2. Our last Day of Prayer will be held this Saturday, June 3, from 9 am to 7 pm, where we will hold our public prayer vigils at 9 am in the Pathways Center and 5:30 pm in the Chapel.
One of the most enjoyable experiences I've had in the last 12 months of leadership at LAC was the Fireside Chat. I eagerly looked forward to the first Wednesday of every month, as it gave me the privilege of sitting with an open microphone and engaging in candid conversations with all of you. However, due to the introduction of the weekly prayer session on Wednesday nights, I must adjust the schedule for the Fireside Chat. Beginning in June, it will take place on the first Thursday of every month in FL 201-203 (Rose Room) unless noticed otherwise. If you have questions and want to know more about me and Lake Avenue Church, join us next Thursday, June 1, at 7 pm. If you can't join me in person, you are welcome to send me a question and I will do my best to answer it.
I sincerely hope you continue to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to ask questions or address any concerns you may have about the leadership. It is my intention to foster open and transparent communication between the leaders and members of the congregation. For those who are unable to attend the Fireside Chat in person, I encourage you to reach out via email at with your questions (or use the form on our Fireside Chat page). Also, the video recordings of the Fireside Chat will be made available a few days after each chat for you to watch so that you can still access my responses.
I look forward to our future conversations and the continued growth of our community together. Let us press on in faith, knowing that our prayers are powerful and effective and that God is working in and through us in remarkable ways.
