A Rooted Revolution and a Continued Community Transformation
Dear , Spring is the season of retreats. We often use the word ‘retreat’ as a time of relaxation and rejuvenation. However, it is also a tactical military term that describes the temporary withdrawal of an army from the battlefield, only to return with more power and a better strategy.
At LAC, we are using the Rooted season as a time of retreat - to pause and observe how the seven rhythms of discipleship resonate within the soul of our community. We are also transitioning our governance model from the bylaw to the covenant, and the five elected deacons are entrusted with the responsibility of forming our first Leadership Development Team.
On the staff front, our Family Ministries team is now strategically positioned to reimagine the future after the installation of Rufus Samuel as the Director of NextGen ministries. We are grateful to Dr. Nick Barret for the transitional leadership he has provided in this area. I have extended his contract for another six months as a strategic consultant to the senior pastor to help us launch the following initiatives:
- Formation of the Academy of Cultural Engagement, offering cohort model courses on the intersection between faith and Science / Art / Business.
- The reinvention of the Kitchen Table conversations and podcast series.
- Design and development of Small Group/Sunday school curricula in collaboration with a major publishing house.
Our Young Adults Director, Beth Paz, recently completed the ordination requirements of LAC, including the Vicinage Council's approval and an affirmative vote of the Elder Council. We will celebrate her ministry at the ordination service scheduled on Sunday, March 19 at 4 pm.
We are past midway in our Rooted journey and getting ready for a celebration service on Saturday, April 1, which is also the Day of Prayer. We will gather at 5.30 pm at the Worship Center for a special service that includes worship, prayer, devotion, sharing of stories, and baptisms. The Rooted experience will culminate in the Holy week, with Palm Sunday on Sunday, April 2, Good Friday Service on April 7, and the Easter Sunday Service on April 9.
We are enjoying the outpouring of God’s favor in this season of “retreat” at LAC. However, we should also be aware that He is setting the scene for our next foray into enemy territory. Let us prepare to regroup and return to action when the marching orders are issued!
Blessings
