Hello Families,
We hope you survived the heat and are enjoying the beautiful clouds that have been blessing us this past week.
As we step into August, with school on the horizon and the summer drifting away, we want to take some time to center ourselves and this community around the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Thus we will be STOPPING ALL PROGRAMS for the next two weeks. From August 1st through August 15th there will be no Wednesday or Tuesday night meetings, and on Sundays we will be in the main sanctuary all together.
These two weeks are meant to be a chance that all of us might go to the Lord in prayer and ask about where we have been and where He is taking us and to just be sensative to His response. We want to reflect on all that has happened this summer, from joyful events to kids opening up about sorrow and trauma, from Baptisms to encounters with Jesus, we want to take after Paul and say that,
"For these reasons we bow before the Father and pray" Eph 3:15.
To continue this act of prayer and worship we will be having a Night of Worship on August 16th as our first event of the Fall. This event is OPEN TO PARENTS! We want this ministry to come along side not just your kids but your whole family and that includes you parents. So please know that you are welcome and wanted at our night of Worship on Wednesday, August 16th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm to join us and sing, pray, reflect, and project God's vision over this next season of Lake Avenue Student ministries.
Sunday - August 13th
As we will all be together in the main sanctuary for Sunday the 13th this month we want to let all you parents know that Pastor Mathew will be speaking on the topic of sexuality and identity. We believe this is a relevant and significant topic to address but also recognize that it is sensitive and heavy so we want to give you notice that it is coming up. We all need to wrestle with these questions and be prepared for the conversations that can arise from this topic, but we also recognize that you know where your kids are at in terms of maturity, growth, and understanding. Thus we see this as an opportunity for our students but we also want to let you discern whether your kids are ready for this topic.
Help!
Finally, this is a call to anyone who might have, or know of someone who has, extra furniture, rugs, bookshelves, couches, and the like. We want our facilities to be welcoming and open to every unique and individual kid, but that is going to take some transformation. If we are going to do what we envision we are going to need all the help we can get! So message or call Rufus or Wesley (contacts to the right) and let us know if you have anything available.
