“Thousands of us carry the heartbreak of unanswered prayer in our hearts. Occasionally we continue to wonder why God does not respond to our requests, but mostly we just get on with life, brushing our disappointments and questions under the rug, trying to trust in God regardless. But it truly doesn’t have to be like this.”
- Pete Greig, God on Mute
Jesus, himself, was overwhelmed with sorrow and prayed, “may this cup be taken from me” (Matthew 26:39), and yet, it was not. During hard times we must wrestle with our unanswered prayers and ask hard questions. Emotionally, I have wondered, ‘how will I get through this?’ Intellectually, I have wanted to know, ‘why don’t my prayers seem to be working?’ As a Christian who wants to share the good news, I have sought to answer our society’s question of ‘where is God in the hardship and waiting?’
These honest questions of mine and others are addressed in the Unanswered Prayer Course. While the Church is often shy to address grief, the Bible isn’t. Holy Week is our guide through this course as we look at Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, through the pain and betrayal of the cross, and ultimately the resurrection.
This course is for you if you:
- want to dive deeper into Christ’s experience to prepare your own heart for Holy Week
- are seeking to understand the Christian perspective on prayer and suffering, OR
- have experienced a loss (big or small) and are looking for the comfort of Jesus
Our course time will be spent learning from Pete Greig via video, having small group discussion,
and praying together. In-person attendance is encouraged, but a zoom option is available.
The class will meet Friday, April 1 (7–9 pm) and Saturday, April 2 (9 am–12 pm). Register today using keyword: unansweredprayer
