Praying for Reign
When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he chose to answer by providing an example of what the prayer of one of his followers should be like. Sometimes, in our churches, Jesus' prayer-exemplar has become only a ritualistic prayer to be recited rather than as a guide for our daily prayer lives. This Lenten Season, 2018, we want to allow Jesus to teach us to pray by isolating one of its parts week-by-week and considering a complementary Biblical text to help us understand and apply what Jesus was teaching in that particular part of his prayer. In this way, we are praying, i.e., praying that we as individuals and as a church family will learn more about what prayer is, about how to grow in our lives of prayer, and about how to experience the life-transforming change that prayer makes in our daily lives.
