Questions for Reflection
Read Isaiah 9:1-7
- In verse 2, Isaiah talks about those living in “darkness.” What was this “darkness” for Isaiah’s original audience? Where do you see this “deep darkness” in our world or in your own life today?
- Read Matthew 4:12-17 and compare to Isaiah 9:1-7. What similarities do you find? Why does Matthew quote this passage as he is writing about Jesus’ ministry? What is Matthew trying to say?
- How might God be inviting you to bring a little light into the darkness of our world this Christmas season?
- Isaiah describes God as Wonderful Counselor, Everlasting Father, Mighty God, and Prince of Peace. Which of these names do you connect with the most, and why?
- Pastor Chuck said that when we live out of our hope in Christ, we experience restoration, healing, resilience, and connection. How have you experienced restoration, healing, resilience, or connection because of your hope in Jesus?
- In what area of your life do you need the “Defiant Hope” that only Christ can bring?
