The Necessity of Community - Week 4
I have been so excited for this upcoming weekend for a while now. I will be preaching alongside Perry Hawkins, our Junior High Director. I am certain you will see what so many of our students and families experience all the time under Perry's leadership.
Dear Church Family,
I have been so excited for this upcoming weekend for a while now. I will be preaching alongside Perry Hawkins, our Junior High Director. I am certain you will see what so many of our students and families experience all the time under Perry's leadership.
Perry is a gifted man who has a passion for the scriptures and teaching them. Our time of preparation has been filled with anticipation for what God will do in our church family. As you may know, Lake has along history of investing into younger leaders and seeing them flourish. I have had to joy to watch first hand Perry's journey of leadership over several years of service to Lake.
Perry and I will be taking us into James 5. Specifically, we will be looking at "community". Currently the word community is often cited in churches and ministries as a high value. However, community can often go without definition or specifics. Our passage on James this week will put some specifics on what it means to act as community.
Have you ever been witness to one who used to love Jesus and active in church and ministry only to see them walk away? What are we to do? How do we make sure that we do not become this person? This is what we will look at this week.
As we open the Word together, may we see the necessity of community in our lives and be encouraged to both give and receive this kind of relationship with others.
To His Glory,
Jeff Mattesich
Lead Ministry Pastor

the necessity of community
James 5:19-20
- Share about a time you heard God's prompting to be the kind of person James talks about in chapter 5.
- How have you or would you pursue a brother or sister in Christ who has or might fall away? What adjectives can you think of describe your approach?
- Perry spoke about giving our brothers and sisters permission into our lives. Have you done this? When, why, who? Is this hard thing to think about? How might you take a step toward this kind of intimacy?
- Assess your experience of community. What is present when it is a full experience and what are the things missing when it feels lacking?
