I AM The Light of the World

Read John 8:12-19

• Jesus said “I am the light of the world.” In this way Jesus went way beyond saying he was “enlightened”, as many leaders of other religions might say. What do you think about Jesus’ words?
• The Pharisees rejected Jesus’ claim, saying that it was self-witness. Notice his response. What do you think of Jesus response to the Pharisees?
• In verse 15, Jesus said that “You judge by human standards…” or in other translations, “You judge according to the flesh…” What is the correct way of seeing, or approaching, Jesus?
• In verse 12, Jesus says “…Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Have you ever experienced darkness in your life? What was that like?
• How should an understanding of “Jesus is the light of the world” work its way out of the life of a follower of Jesus?
