Read Exodus 19:1-6

What is the context of this passage (vs. 1-4)? How does the context bring deeper meaning to God’s words in verses 5-6?

Pastor Jeff said that in verse 4, God reminds the Israelites of what He has done before He tells them what to do. In other words, the grace of God precedes the law of God. How has God’s grace in your own life motivated you to live faithfully in His world? What happens to our faith and our witness when we skip over grace and live only by the law?

  • What does it mean to be God’s “treasured possession” in verse 5?
  • God says that we belong to Him and are his special possession, but often there are other things that own us, possess us, or have power over us. Where do you seek belonging and identity apart from Christ?
  • Take a moment to read 1 Peter 2:9-12. What does this passage tell us about our purpose as God’s special possession? What keeps us from living this way? How can you “declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” this week?
  • Take some time to pray for our High School students going to Houston on a mission trip, and for Vacation Bible School (the theme of which is “Treasured!”). God is on mission among our kids and students the week of June 14, so let’s support them in prayer!
